12 Commentaries ויאמר אלהים אל אברהם And G-d said to Abraham: אל ירע בעיניך Don't let this appear (so) bad to you על הנער because of the lad, ועל אמתך and because of your maid-servant, כל אשר תאמר אליך שרה everything that Sarah says to you, שמע בקלה you should listen to her; כי ביצחק because (it will be) by Isaac יקרא לך זרע that your descendants (seed) will come. And G-d said to Abraham ויאמר אלהים אל אברהם Don't let this appear (so) bad to you אל ירע בעיניך because of the lad על הנער and because of your maid-servant ועל אמתך everything that Sarah says to you כל אשר תאמר אליך שרה you should listen to her שמע בקלה because (it will be) by Isaac כי ביצחק that your descendants (seed) will come יקרא לך זרע יב
13 Commentaries וגם את בן האמה And also the maid-servant's son לגוי אשימנו I will make into a nation, כי זרעך הוא because he is your (seed) offspring. And also the maid-servant's son וגם את בן האמה I will make into a nation לגוי אשימנו because he is your (seed) offspring כי זרעך הוא יג
14 Commentaries וישכם אברהם בבקר And Abraham got up early in the morning ויקח לחם and took bread וחמת מים and a water (made of skin) container ויתן אל הגר and gave (these) to Hagar, שם על שכמה putting (them) on her shoulder, ואת הילד and (gave her) the child, וישלחה and sent her away; ותלך ותתע she went and (got) lost במדבר באר שבע in the desert (around) Beer-Sheba. And Abraham got up early in the morning וישכם אברהם בבקר and took bread ויקח לחם and a water (made of skin) container וחמת מים and gave (these) to Hagar ויתן אל הגר putting (them) on her shoulder שם על שכמה and (gave her) the child ואת הילד and sent her away וישלחה she went and (got) lost ותלך ותתע in the desert (around) Beer-Sheba במדבר באר שבע יד

17 Commentaries וישמע אלהים את קול הנער And G-d heard the lad's voice, ויקרא מלאך אלהים and an angel of G-d called אל הגר מן השמים to Hagar from the heavens, ויאמר לה saying to her: מה לך הגר What is the matter, Hagar ? אל תיראי Don't be afraid, כי שמע אלהים for G-d has heard אל קול הנער the lad's voice באשר הוא שם from where he is there. 18 Commentaries קומי Get up ! שאי את הנער Pick up the lad, והחזיקי את ידך בו and support him in your hands, כי לגוי גדול אשימנו I will make him into a great nation. 22 Commentaries ששי (Start of sixth aliyah) ויהי בעת ההוא And also at this time, ויאמר אבימלך ופיכל שר צבאו Abimelech with Phichol the commander of his army, spoke אל אברהם לאמר to Abraham saying: אלהים עמך G-d is with you, בכל אשר אתה עשה in all that you do. 23 Commentaries ועתה השבעה לי Now, swear to me באלהים הנה by G-d, here, אם תשקר לי that you will (not) lie ולניני ולנכדי to my children or to my grandchildren, כחסד rather (return) the kindness אשר עשיתי עמך that I showed (did) to you, תעשה עמדי so do to me ועם הארץ אשר גרתה בה and to the land where you lived. Now, swear to me ועתה השבעה לי by G-d, here באלהים הנה that you will (not) lie אם תשקר לי to my children or to my grandchildren ולניני ולנכדי rather (return) the kindness כחסד that I showed (did) to you אשר עשיתי עמך so do to me תעשה עמדי and to the land where you lived ועם הארץ אשר גרתה בה כג
24 Commentaries ויאמר אברהם And Abraham said: אנכי אשבע I will (so) swear. And Abraham said ויאמר אברהם I will (so) swear אנכי אשבע כד
25 Commentaries והוכח אברהם את אבימלך And Abraham reproved Abimelech, על אדות באר המים on account of the water well, אשר גזלו עבדי אבימלך which Abimelech's servants had stolen. 26 Commentaries ויאמר אבימלך And Abimelech said: לא ידעתי מי עשה את הדבר הזה I don't know who did this thing, וגם אתה לא הגדת לי and also you didn't tell me, וגם אנכי לא שמעתי and I hadn't heard בלתי היום until today. 27 Commentaries ויקח אברהם צאן ובקר And Abraham took sheep and oxen, ויתן לאבימלך and gave (them) to Abimelech; ויכרתו שניהם ברית and the two of them made a pact.
