2 Commentaries ויאמר קח נא And He said: Take now את בנך את יחידך your son, your only son, אשר אהבת את יצחק that you love, Isaac, ולך לך אל ארץ המריה and go yourself to the land of Moriah. והעלהו שם לעלה There offer him up as a burnt offering על אחד ההרים on one of the mountains אשר אמר אליך which I will tell you. And He said: Take now ויאמר קח נא your son, your only son את בנך את יחידך that you love, Isaac אשר אהבת את יצחק and go yourself to the land of Moriah ולך לך אל ארץ המריה There offer him up as a burnt offering והעלהו שם לעלה on one of the mountains על אחד ההרים which I will tell you אשר אמר אליך ב
3 Commentaries וישכם אברהם בבקר And Abraham got up early in the morning, ויחבש את חמרו and saddled his ass, ויקח את שני נעריו אתו and took two of his young men with him, ואת יצחק בנו and Isaac his son; ויבקע עצי עלה and he cut the wood for the burnt offering, ויקם וילך and got up and went אל המקום אשר אמר לו האלהים to the place that G-d had told him. 5 Commentaries ויאמר אברהם אל נעריו And Abraham said to his young men: שבו לכם פה עם החמור Stay here with the ass, ואני והנער נלכה עד כה and the lad and I will carry on from here; ונשתחוה and worship, ונשובה אליכם and (then) return to you. 6 Commentaries ויקח אברהם את עצי העלה And Abraham took the wood for the burnt offering וישם על יצחק בנו and placed it on Isaac his son, ויקח בידו את האש and took the fire in his hand ואת המאכלת and the knife, וילכו שניהם יחדו and both of them went on together. 7 Commentaries ויאמר יצחק אל אברהם אביו And Isaac spoke to his father Abraham, ויאמר אבי and he said: My father. ויאמר הנני בני And he said: Here am I, my son. ויאמר הנה האש והעצים Here is the fire and the wood, ואיה השה לעלה but where is the lamb for the burnt-offering ? 8 Commentaries ויאמר אברהם And Abraham said: אלהים יראה לו G-d will see himself השה לעלה בני to the lamb for a burnt-offering, my son. וילכו שניהם יחדו And they went on both together. 9 Commentaries ויבאו אל המקום And they came to the place אשר אמר לו האלהים which G-d had told him of; ויבן שם אברהם את המזבח and Abraham built there the altar, ויערך את העצים and arranged the wood, ויעקד את יצחק בנו and tied up his son Isaac, וישם אתו על המזבח and laid him on the altar ממעל לעצים on top of the wood. And they came to the place ויבאו אל המקום which G-d had told him of אשר אמר לו האלהים and Abraham built there the altar ויבן שם אברהם את המזבח and arranged the wood ויערך את העצים and tied up his son Isaac ויעקד את יצחק בנו and laid him on the altar וישם אתו על המזבח on top of the wood ממעל לעצים ט

12 Commentaries ויאמר אל תשלח ידך אל הנער And he said: do not lay a hand on the lad, ואל תעש לו מאומה and don't do anything to him; כי עתה ידעתי for now I know כי ירא אלהים אתה that you fear G-d, ולא חשכת and did not withhold את בנך את יחידך ממני your son, your only one, from me. And he said: do not lay a hand on the lad ויאמר אל תשלח ידך אל הנער and don't do anything to him ואל תעש לו מאומה for now I know כי עתה ידעתי that you fear G-d כי ירא אלהים אתה and did not withhold ולא חשכת your son, your only one, from me את בנך את יחידך ממני יב
13 Commentaries וישא אברהם את עיניו And Abraham looked up וירא והנה איל אחר and saw afterwards that there was a ram נאחז בסבך בקרניו caught by its horns in the thicket, וילך אברהם ויקח את האיל and Abraham went and took the ram ויעלהו לעלה תחת בנו and offered it as a burnt-offering in place of his son. And Abraham looked up וישא אברהם את עיניו and saw afterwards that there was a ram וירא והנה איל אחר caught by its horns in the thicket נאחז בסבך בקרניו and Abraham went and took the ram וילך אברהם ויקח את האיל and ויעלהו לעלה תחת בנו יג
14 Commentaries ויקרא אברהם שם המקום ההוא And Abraham named the place, יהוה יראה The Lord (selects this place and) is seen; אשר יאמר היום as is said to this day, בהר יהוה יראה in the mountain (where) the Lord was seen. 17 Commentaries כי ברך אברכך I will greatly bless you והרבה ארבה את זרעך and greatly multiply your descendants, ככוכבי השמים as the stars in the heavens וכחול אשר על שפת הים and as the sand on the seashore; וירש זרעך את שער איביו your descendants will take the gate of their enemies.
